Schmincke Liquid Charcoaloffers a contemporary, mess-free approach to working with charcoal. Suspended in a water-based binder, it allows artist's to paint, draw, and build tonal studies with the depth of traditional charcoal, without dust or loose pigment.
Made using naturally derived carbon pigments, including charred fruit pits, each shade has its own distinct character, ranging from warm brown-black to cool bluish tones. The fluid consistency can be used straight from the tube for bold marks or diluted with water to create soft washes, subtle gradients, and layered effects.
With a gum arabic binder similar to watercolour, Liquid Charcoal offers smooth application and strong adhesion. It can be reworked, lifted, or smudged depending on the surface, and is particularly effective for underpainting in oil or mixed media work.
