The Blind Asylum, Southwark Mounted Print

The Blind Asylum, Southwark Mounted Print

This institution was established in 1799 by a group of four philanthropists, who designated it as the 'School for the Indigent Blind.' Their objective was to 'educate and support fifteen blind individuals, providing them with vocational training.' The school underwent several relocations and is depicted here on Blackfriars Road. In the early 20th century, it moved to Surrey and was renamed the Royal School for the Blind.
